“praying”
Lyrics and Composition: Takatsuki Kagura (cv.Eguchi Takuya)
Singer: Takarada Iori (cv.Saito Soma)
Listen to the title on Spotify.
Blind to those who once came to us
we dream of light breaking through
the door shut in with snow,
hoping to, one day, see it open.
Regret creeps when parting comes
and the echo of a leaf dancing on water
a single fleck, seems to giggle on the ripples.
Our long journey must carry on
No matter how fleeting the wind, no matter which way it blows,
easy come, easy go. (1)
Some day, even the lingering, stagnant silhouettes
that once reached us will fade away
from our bare young hearts.
Hazy, shimmering colours
and even this quietness, one day,
will make up for their absence.
It all disappeared between the cracks of time
—taking everything, down to the grating pain,
leaving but a soft, gentle haze hanging.
We were walking with no clear destination.
The more we looked up, the more the stars hanging in the sky
left us with a bated breath.
My youth, my guts and life danced
as my fingertips traced an answer into the moonless sky
—I can see it clearly now.
The distant past
and the imperceptible tomorrow overlap
in our bare young hearts.
Some day, we'll reach our goal
because all the paths we took on this never-ending journey
will lead us to the place we prayed for.
Awakening from slumber,
the morning dew glitters
on the shards and broken pieces,
like carefully inlaid gems.
If we found salvation,
then this light is proof of it;
now illuminating our path,
shining upon us.
And, some day, the silhouettes we once reached out to
will have faded away from our bare young hearts.
(1) 「過ぎれば忘れて」 may be an indirect reference to the Japanese idiom 「喉元過ぎれば熱さを忘れる」 which can be translated to “The danger past, and god is forgotten” or “Vows made in storms are forgotten in calms.”
It's a parable to illustrate how easy it is to forget once a painful experience has been dealt with. Another explanation is forgetting about the kind hand that helped you once your issues have been resolved and the sky has cleared up. ↑
