Mitile: Master Sage, look over there—this shop even sells knife amulets!
Akira: It’s sad to see that the fear Varcy inspires has grown into common customs…
It actually reminds me of a folklore we have back in my world: it’s about a monster that acts and resembles Varcy.
We also call them vampires and, like Varcy, they're beings that have long terrorised people by feeding on human blood.
Mitile: They feed on blood… Are they weak to iron too?
Akira: No? Maybe? Books do mention that they’re weak to sunlight and garlic, but…
They’re only fictional monsters there, so I can’t exactly say I have met one before…
Mitile: … …
Akira: Mitile? Are you okay?
Mitile: It’s just, I’m worried… These vampire-things look and almost behave like Varcy, and Varcy was a real being in the flesh here…
So if someone like him can exist, who can say there aren’t blood-sucking monsters roaming near you, and you just haven’t found them yet?
What we saw here could very well happen in your world too, and… And…
Akira: …I know their existence isn’t completely inconceivable.
But… I have to admit, the possibility is as exciting as it is nerve-wracking.
Mitile: Then… Once we’re done with our mission, we should look for some ‘laughing garlic’ at the market.
That way, no vampire will be able to lay a finger on you, even when we’re not there to protect you!
Akira: Oh, Mitile, you’re so sweet… I appreciate your concern.
Mitile: Tee-hee, that’s the least I can do for my most precious friend!
