“Hold High a Grateful Heart”
[West Country, City of Foam—Garden of Delusions, Tent]
Shino: … …
Akira: So this is where you were hiding Shino! Oh, what do you have here? A… A mask? It’s in dire need of repair though...
Shino: A rookie performer gave it to me, said it was a gift to thank me.
Akira: To thank you?
Shino: Yeah, they threw their ball too far and it landed on top of the tent.
They were desperately hopping up and down, but with no one else around they wouldn’t reach it by themself—especially for someone that barely reaches my waist.
So I gave them a hand—nothing a spell couldn’t help us with—and they repaid the favour with this.
Akira: How sweet! I feel like this child most likely saw a dependable brother figure in your kind gesture.
But, how… How can a child so young work here… I can’t wrap my head around this still…
Shino: Any place to stay is as good as the other for an orphan. From what I’m getting about this place, food is rationed to some extent; but at least it’s something.
Despite the cut on food, they still wanted to gift me biscuits from their provisions.
I gave them a simple warning: if they put others before their own survival, they’re going to send themself to an early grave.
Akira: Shino…
Shino: I’m lucky enough to eat my fill at the Manor already. I didn’t see why I should be taking from their rations for a small favour.
So instead, they gave me this. It’s chipped here and there, damaged beyond repair according to them, so no one would be using it for a performance. I think it has its charms.
Akira: … …You’re very considerate of them, Shino.
Shino: Not particularly, or at least it wasn’t on purpose. I really wanted this trinket more than the biscuits.
…Look at that, don't the fissures look cool? And if I wear it like this… There! What do you think? I look extra mysterious and badass, yeah?
Akira: …Yes, you certainly do!
