“An Evening for You,

my One and Only”

chapter one

[Cottage]

Shylock: …It feels like ages have passed.

I have been looking forward to spending this evening in your company for so long—too long. Now then, let’s savour this evening togeth–

White: Yoohoo~ Hello there, Shylock my dear. A lovely evening we have here, don’t you agree?

Shylock: …My, if this isn’t Lord White. To what do I owe the pleasure? The situation at hand must be quite pressing for you to visit outside of your frame.

White: Hohoho, why, it’s nothing of the sort. I simply came to invite you for an affair.

Shylock: An affair?

White: Yes, it’s a term I have learnt from our previous Sage. I believe it stands for engaging in foolhardy affairs of the heart, and romantic escapades.

Shylock: Affairs of the heart... An expression burning with remarkable passion indeed.

White: Totally!

White: From what they told me, it seems that adults in their world enjoy nights like these to relish in passionate affairs.

And so, I felt that tonight was perfect to engage in such escapades. That is precisely why I also sought you out—you, Shylock, the most indomitable man of all West country.

Your heart, a coveted prize many sought but never caught… I, White, wizard of the Northern country, shall make it mine.

Shylock: Fufu, it would be my honour to oblige, Lord White, but alas…

I already have company for the night.

chapter two

[Cottage]

White: Wh– Surely you jest!? Who is the lucky chosen one!? Hurry up, tell me every little detail about them!!

Shylock: They are an incredibly sweet soul who has been patiently waiting for my return.

White: If I may—regardless of their devout patience, it appears they lack the drive to meet you in person, don’t you agree?

I was right to visit you. Come, let us revel in an evening of thrills together, Shylock.

Shylock: Lord White…

Dear me, I did not expect such passion to slip from your lips, especially if addressed to me.

Had I been a soul easily charmed by the prospect of love, your declaration would have assuredly swayed me.

However… I shall devote this night to satiate my companion’s most fervent desires.

I want to give them all my attention, and learn what they did while we were apart.

White: Hmph, well, if you’re as devout as you claim, then I will wait until I can see them with my own two eyes!

Shylock: …Be my guest.

White: Hm? A bottle…?

Shylock: …A precious liquor of mine that I left uncorked in this cottage, to be precise.

…It would be presumptuous of me to assume this old friend of mine would suit your palate, but what do you say? Would you fancy sharing a glass with us?

White: Hohoho, I trust your judgement on the matter, so I will pass this time. I apologise for meddling with your plans.

Shylock: Please, do not worry yourself, I enjoyed humouring this little conversation of ours. …Now then, if you’ll excuse me–

I must make the most of this evening to create wonderful memories.

episode story

“Not Exactly an Affair”

[Wizard’s Manor—Bar Bennett]

Akira: Shylock, what would you prefer: a passionate, exciting love life, or something sweet and gentle?

Shylock: My, you certainly pose unexpectedly abrupt questions.

Akira: White asked me the same question out of the blue earlier, and naturally I got curious too, so… Which do you prefer?

Shylock: Let me think… Both have their appeal, and I wouldn’t be against pursuing either of them. However, I’m also a wizard driven by greed.

If I had to choose, I would covet a combination of both—something akin to… to you, for example.

Akira: Wha– me? Well, that’s unexpected. Nothing about me really screams “passionate and exciting,” in my opinion.

Shylock: Fufu, you may not be aware of it yourself.

Your gentleness, warm as sunlight, and your occasional displays of bravery, beyond what any fairy tale’s hero could achieve, are incredibly attractive to me.

If you may be so kind as to entertain my selfishness, I would love to have you for a night of affair.

Akira: A-An affair…!? You? With m-me!?

Um, just so that we’re more or less on the same page… What do you mean by that exactly…?

Shylock: That is for you to discover during our escapade.

Akira: Pardon!?

Shylock: I am persuaded this will be a night to remember, especially for you. That’s why—

I hope you genuinely consider my proposal, Master Sage.

“Would you like some hot tea, Master Sage? One may long for a cold drink on hot days like these, although I’d advise not to indulge as it would only briefly cool you down. I could also prepare your usual—without alcohol, of course. Please, suit yourself.”
