 Canvas

□ Composition & Lyrics / Takatsuki Kagura

This title turned out to be one of the most refreshing songs I have ever composed.

Our goal was to make “Canvas” a song full of positivity, in accordance with our theme, “the first rays of sunlight”.

I deliberately chose to be straightforward with the lyrics, free of lies and frivolity, to best accompany the motivating melody. I wanted this song to be encouraging, and act as the impetus our listeners need to begin their day.

Kirishima's input was of considerable help in transmitting that idea. I can only be grateful for his collaboration.

We were preemptively made aware that Komiyama would sing this title, so I made sure to craft a melody that made the most out of his voice.

I think he interpreted and sang this title to perfection.

□ Arrangements / Kirishima Sora

That’s exactly the type of calm and refreshing song you would be listening to as you emerge from your morning grogginess.

When Takatsuki-san sent me the files, I had a lot of fun tinkering and coming up with all sorts of arrangements! I really resonated with the melody and often ended up humming the lyrics as I was working on the song.

I think we produced something uniquely full of pep! A freshness unlike any other!

Let’s not gloss over Arashi-kun’s singing either: his voice was fantastic, and I really hope many people will give it a listen!

 irony

□ Lyrics / Kaji Haruhi

I don’t exactly know how to put it into words… But to put it simply, I wanted to convey a sort of frustration towards the world that surrounds us, with a touch of cynicism.

I wasn’t trying to speak or write about my own feelings through the lyrics either. The words floating in my head sort of clicked, and somehow the story weaved itself before my eyes.

Man, did my fellow members give me an earful about how bitter the lyrics sounded. You have no idea how fussy they were about it.

On the other hand, the song was so well composed, the lyrics just flowed on the paper. Thanks a lot for that, Sakaki-kuuun—!

□ Composition / Sakaki Oshiro

Sheesh, well that sure was one hell of a challenge fer me. Like, I had to work with the “hustle ‘n bustle of crowds in the early afternoon” as a guideline!

I wanted to portray a loud ‘n extravagant city, somethin’ that’d buzz in your ears like they’re constantly goin’ “LOOK HERE! TA-DAAAM!” Feel me?

I gotta give it to Kaji-san’s lyrics ‘n Takatsuki-san's arrangements, they were the ones to really expand the image I had for this song! Thanks a bunch!

Sebumi-san’s singing was also hella good!

□ Arrangements / Takatsuki Kagura

This style of song certainly was out of my comfort zone, but with Sakaki and Kaji to guide me, I had all the cards needed to easily picture the intent they wanted to convey.

The only thing I have added to the arrangement is the urban raucousness that Sakaki had in mind.

Sakaki didn’t have a concrete grasp on what living in the city was. As a Tokyo resident myself, I was elated to give him adequate advice on those characteristic sounds.

On the other hand, I also introduced glimpses of sophistication amidst the busy ruckus of the melody.

 一等星

□ Lyrics / Kirishima Sora

I broke into tears when I first listened to the demo. How should I put this, it’s like… Like a wave of emotions swallowed me whole…!

I even felt my own past self surging behind the melody, so I used some of the lyrics to give a voice to what I once used to feel.

That being said, writing the lyrics posed me no problem since the melody was so beautifully crafted. I truly admire Haruhi-san’s sound design—hats off to our prodigy!

□ Composition & Arrangements / Kaji Haruhi

Despite the fact that our theme was “twilight,” I couldn’t come up with a landscape still basking in the last rays of sunlight. I just couldn’t shake this image of an evening under the pelting rain, soon revealing the blanket of stars behind the clouds.

This bright, starry sky poking through at the end of the day inspired the title “一等星”, or “Brightest Star.”

Kirishima-kun completely understood my vision, and I’m grateful for the wonderful lyrics he crafted for this title. Both melody and lyrics were made to go together, in my opinion.

 Trip on

□ Composition & Lyrics / Zaizen Mirai

I had the time of my LIFE composin’ this song!!

When I found out that Kurahashi was with us, I had only one thing in mind: go to town with this song, ‘n make one hell of a banger! I had to use his voice fer somethin’ assertive ‘n sensational!

Kurahashi also gave me a hand with the lyrics. When I consulted ‘im about what’d be easier for him to sing as a vocalist, he was extra accommodatin’ ‘n helped me lots comin’ up with the lyrics.

We’d bounce off ideas back ‘n forth over a drink, that was tons of fun!

I think our song turned out great! ‘N Sakaki’s arrangements? Dude, that’s one of the best stuff I’ve heard out there!

□ Lyrics / Kurahashi Kairi

Miramira was the one to text me first outta the blue about the lyrics.

So I gave his demo a shot, ‘n boy was that a fucking banger right off the bat. I told him that he was cooking something super-duper interestin’ in my eyes, and that’s how I ended up working on the lyrics with him~

Truth is, your Kairi-kyun got extra self-indulgent with the lyrics since we were caterin’ to my needs as a vocalist.

Miramira wrote everything else though!!

□ Arrangements / Sakaki Oshiro

I feel like I’ve discovered a whole different side of Zaizen-senpai! Like he’d been hidin’ that madness all his life, y’know!?

When we were in the talks to arrange the first demo, I was rackin' my brain ‘bout what I should do with this song. My senpais told me to not think ‘bout it too much ‘n go fer it, ‘n I was like: “Are you fo’real? Can I!?”

So I did what they told me ‘n indulged with the arrangements, totes expectin’ they’d want me to rework it… But they didn’t! They straight up approved it! Gee, imagine how shocked I was!

I’m never gonna forget dat experience, it was hella fun! I’d never been exposed to that style of music before, ‘n I learnt lots outta it! Thanks a bunch fer that!

 daybreak

□ Lyrics / Sakaki Oshiro

I received the first demo from Kirishima-san right at the crack of dawn. Of course, I’d been awake fer a good while a’ready.

So I listened to the demo while doin’ my morning jog, ‘n boy did that song make it more fun. The moment I stepped home, I went straight to my desk to get started with the lyrics. Gotta say, that was a very… strange sensation fer me. It felt like I couldn’t stop the words from flowin’ outta me, words even I didn’t know I had in me.

That was the first time I’d felt somethin’ like dat. Kirishima-san’s music sure can sway someone’s heart. I find that ability incredible, to be honest.

□ Composition / Kirishima Sora

No one is going to believe me, but the melody for “daybreak” actually came to me in a dream. As soon as my morning alarm rang, I quickly jotted down the score before I forgot it!

This song is essentially the condensation of the kind side and the heartrending side within us.

When Sakaki-kun sent me his lyrics, I was left speechless: the musicality and the words perfectly corresponded to what I had in mind—it was flawless! Perhaps we managed to establish some kind of telepathic bond...!?

I wanted this song to convey a more chill atmosphere, so I left the arrangements’ details to Mirai-san, who specialises in that genre!

□ Arrangements / Zaizen Mirai

I like this song a whole lot! It totally fits my style!

With Takarada as our vocalist, I had to stay away from anythin’ too loud ‘n in yer face. I arranged the song keepin’ this sort of pastel colour palette in mind, as it matches our singer.

The demo and lyrics were excellent, so good in fact that ideas just kept comin’ to me non-stop. I poured my all into this song to give it the best finishing touches I could, ‘n I enjoyed every second of it.

Even though I worked on this song, I still listen to it over ‘n over—I hope you guys can do the same as well!
