chapter one

[Wizards’ Manor—Bedroom Corridor]

Mithra: Figaro.

Figaro: Heya, Mithra. Well, colour me surprised, you usually don’t initiate the conversation with me.

Mithra: I’m not doing so because I want to, but because I need to complain to you.

Figaro: “Complain”?

Mithra: Yes, about the party held in the Magic Mountain in the North. Word goes that this thing is akin to a worship festival in your honour, although it’s just something I’ve heard.

Figaro: Huh, really? I never knew.

Mithra: Oh please, don't be coy with me… That’s precisely what I don’t like about you.

The thought of a handful of people worshipping you is enough to both upset and sicken me to my core.

Figaro: You always have the right word to sour my mood. That being said, I wouldn’t exactly qualify their doing as worshipping.

I'm just doing my job as a wizard who has outlived many.

Mithra: Your “job”?

Figaro: I offer consultations and advice to the wizards who attend the party, and listen to their reports on the current state of things. When you live for as long as yours truly, that’s a role you’re bound to take on.

Mithra: Huh, I see.

Figaro: I wouldn’t mind giving up my position if you’re interested, but it might be a bit too troublesome and far too much work for you to handle.

chapter two

[Wizards’ Manor—Bedroom Corridor]

Mithra: What do you mean? It’s just a simple role to uphold for a festival, nothing more.

Figaro: Hm, not really… For instance, what would you do if some wizards came to you for advice?

“O Sir Mithra, magical beasts have ravaged our lands, and we find ourselves in a desperate predicament. We implore you, Sir Mithra: please give us your wisdom,” or something along those lines.

Mithra: “Sir Mithra”... That has a nice ring to it.

Figaro: It was just an example. So, what would you tell them?

Mithra: Before I give them any answer, I’d kill that wizard.

A weak simpleton who can't even handle magical beasts would pass sooner than later anyway—may as well keep his hopes short and turn him to stone.

Figaro: Haha… I can’t say I didn’t expect that kind of answer from you.

Mithra: Is that all? I must say, your role is incredibly boring.

If handling trouble is all there is to it, then I’ll pass. We’ll leave those to you, like usual.

Figaro: Oh, really? Well, I had imagined you might say that as well.

Mithra: …That being said, could you bring back the stone of that person you killed at the party, if it’s of any high quality? I’ll take it off your hands.

Figaro: Never; I don’t turn to stone the people who seek me for advice!

Mithra: Huh?

Figaro: What?

episode story

“Memories Of A Feast Shrouded In

Mystery”

[Wizard’s Manor—Courtyard]

Akira: Walpurgisnacht is held annually in the Northern Magical Mountain, but have you attended the festival before, Mithra?

Mithra: “Walpurgisnacht”…?

Akira: Yes, it’s that one festival held by wizards, and for wizards only.

I’ve heard that the only rule is to do as you please, the way you please. It sounds like a festival fit for the North Country, don’t you agree?

Mithra: …Now that you mention it, I reckon I've been to a festival where wizards would fight as they pleased, regardless of the situation.

Perhaps that’s the hushed side of that festival?

Akira: I don’t know… May-maybe? It sounds vastly different compared to the one I was taken to…

Were there any huge fireworks being launched, or stalls selling weird snacks at yours?

Mithra: Well, there were wizards that got launched into the sky, and there were rare magical beasts’ guts and enchanted eyeballs up for sale.

Akira: The wizards got what now!? Uh, yeah, that’s gotta be a different festival, right...?

…Still, it’s a Northern festival: it’s possible that Walpurgisnacht had that kind of atmosphere back then.

Mithra: Huh, I suppose. Regardless, I don’t really remember much from it, besides that I was taken there a long, long time ago.

home line

“Even if you miss that one-night festival, you can always attend the following year. Unless all wizards across the world are wiped out, I believe that night will never vanish.”
