chapter one

[Wizards’ Manor—Kitchen]

Shylock: (...? Standing there perfectly still, wouldn’t that be...)

Rustica
: …

Shylock: Is there something on your mind? Your gaze has been fixed on these shelves for some time now.

Rustica: Greetings, Shylock, are you also in need of a bite to eat? Most understandable, one would get quite peckish around this hour, after all.

Shylock: On the contrary, I came here to brew myself some tea. You, on the other hand, have ventured here with an empty stomach, am I not mistaken?

Rustica: Indeed, but my trouble is, I don’t have a thing to bring to my mouth.

Shylock: What a strange thing to say. You have ingredients in abundance right before your eyes.

Rustica: Indeed, we do have ingredients, I can see that much.

I am also well aware that this is futile.

Shylock: ...In other terms, you find yourself utterly unable to cook?

Rustica: It’s quite possible. I cannot recall having much success in that area of expertise.

Chloe usually prepares our meals for us, but he happens to be out at the moment.

Shylock: (...Rustica’s gaze feels curiously heavy...)

Unfortunately, the service you seek is off the menu.

...On the other hand, this is a wonderful opportunity to challenge yourself, wouldn’t you agree? Who knows, you may even find yourself a new talent.

Rustica:  That is most wonderful, Shylock, what a lovely idea! Let us give it a try at once.

chapter two

[Wizards’ Manor—Kitchen]

Rustica: What shall I prepare, I wonder. Oh, I know, why not indulge in that soft, fluffy pancake I once had for breakfast?

Shylock: (This exercise would be of no help to him if I were to intervene. I ought to sit back and observe for now.)

Rustica
: Would these eggs suffice? We will need plenty of seasonings, and butter as well, I believe.

Shylock: (...That is far too much.)

Rustica: Once everything is arranged, we last need magic… I do not know how long it should be cooked... I shall leave it to luck.

Shylock: Rustica… If you put too much force to it―

Rustica: Up we go.

Shylock: ... ...

This is how it should be prepared, do you understand?

Rustica: I never knew cooking could be so lively. My my, the eggs and salt are dancing in the air.

You were right, this was a nice experience—it is quite regrettable that I wasn’t able to make an omelette, however.

Shylock: Do not worry, for you were able to create something nonetheless: a catastrophe, that is.

Rustica: I see. Oh Shylock, you and your way with words.

Shylock: Did that happen to sound like a compliment…

...Well, we may have no omelettes to our names, but I can at least share some scones with you.

How about you join me for some tea, let's say at 3 o’clock?

[Wizards’ Manor—Dining room]

Chloe: I’m back!

Rustica: Welcome home, Chloe.

Chloe: Oh, were you two having afternoon tea? That’s so chic, you two look really elegant.

Shylock: As you said, we undeniably had quite the chic afternoon—truly.

Chloe: ...Um, Rustica, what happened to your hair?

Rustica: Hm?

Chloe: There’s eggshells on it! Is that some new fashion statement?

Shylock: (...Fufu, surely I couldn't have overseen such detail… Could I?)

episode story

“A Strange Cocktail”

[Wizard’s Manor—Bennett’s Bar]

Akira: Did your bar have a signature menu?

Shylock: My shop’s appeal lay in its liquors, thus I only offered appetizers.

Cheese, peanuts, dried fruits, prosciutto, and canned sardines are but a handful of the ready-to-serve, savoury bites one could easily dive in.

Akira: I sort of expected that from a bar. What about your alcohol catalogue?

Shylock: My most requested beverage was a cocktail able to induce memory loss for the night.

Akira: Memory loss...?

Shylock: Yes, one can easily set aside who they are once inebriated.

Of course, the extent of memory loss varies from one consumer to another.

Akira: What a strange cocktail... That sounds a bit scary, but from the way you talk about it, I guess it was pretty popular?

Shylock: Some of my customers drink to forget the distressing and unpleasant.

It was well appreciated among that particular clientele.

Akira: I see...

Shylock: One day, you shall understand, Master Sage—and when you do, by all means do visit my store.

I will always be there to serve you.
