“A Once In A Lifetime Performance”

chapter one

[Wizards’ Manor–Courtyard]

(Clapping)

Rustica: I am flattered that you all have enjoyed this performance. Now, let us enjoy the Tanabata festivities with the same spring in our steps.

Rustica: Faust, I'm pleased to see you lent an ear as well.

Faust: Well, yeah.

Rustica: …

Faust: ...We were able to appreciate songs befitting of this starry sky. Thank you for your performance.

Rustica: Fufu, my pleasure. Your impressions are greatly appreciated.

Faust: Look who’s talking, you had that eager look in your eyes dying for an answer.

Rustica: I wished to converse about music with you for a bit longer. What do you say to another performance with me?

Faust: I don’t mind, but aren’t you tired? You’ve just finished a concert, after all.

Rustica: Thank you for your concern. Except, I am not the one who shall present the next piece.

Faust: Then who...

Rustica: I am certain you’ll be thrilled. First, close your eyes.

Faust: What? I don’t want to though.

Rustica: …

Faust: Fine... For crying out loud… No wonder why I don’t fit in with the Western wizards.

Faust: There, like that?

Rustica: Yes. Now allow nature to take its course and listen carefully.

Faust: … …

Rustica: ...So, how was it?

chapter two

[Wizards’ Manor–Courtyard]

Rustica: The rustling of the trees, the wind whirling around us, and the joyful chatter of everyone make such a peaceful melody, don’t you think?

Faust: ...So you're saying that we should enjoy the sounds of nature and its inhabitants as if they were music?

Rustica: Exactly. As this is a once in a lifetime concert, its worth is invaluable.

Faust: I guess... I think this is too sophisticated for my taste...

Rustica: Is it? I thought that you, a fine lover of nature, may concur with the idea...

Faust: You think too highly of me.

Rustica: …

Faust: This is why you shouldn’t get your hopes up.

Alright, sure, listening to nature as a performance is a bit odd, but I don't mind it.

Rustica: I’m quite glad to hear it.

Then, close your eyes once more, Faust. I myself can already hear the faint twinkle of the stars.

Faust: ...Good grief.

Faust: …

Shino’s voice: Hey, Faust! You better get over here quick before there’s no food left.

Faust: …

Just a second, Shino, I’ll be right there.

I'm sorry Rustica, but we'll have to continue later...

Rustica: Of course. Expect some wine I will ask Shylock to prepare in the meantime, to pair with this concert.

episode story

“High Hopes”

Rustica: …

Akira: (Rustica is… Sleeping on his feet...!?)

Rustica: My, if this isn’t Master Sage.

Akira: I’m sorry, am I interrupting something?

Rustica: No, not at all, do not worry.

Akira: Um, what were you doing exactly?

Rustica: I was listening to ballads from nature.

Akira: Ballads from nature...?

Rustica: Indeed. The chirping of the birds, the whispers of the wind, the chatter coming from the Manor, all are akin to sweet melodies to me.

Akira: How nice! Come to think of it... Faust said something similar the other day.

He was standing still in the shade of a tree in the courtyard, eyes closed, so I called out to him to see what he was up to. That’s when he told me that he was listening to the surrounding sounds.

Rustica: Faust is someone that greatly appreciates nature, after all. I too recently enjoyed some music in his company.

I hope we will partake in more of the arts together.

Akira: You two sure make a rare duo, I’m kind of curious now... What exactly do you want to do with him?

Rustica: We could sketch together in lush greenery, listen to the myriad of notes from the fauna and flora...

We could dance to nature’s melodies, and even accompany it on the harpsichord. I am certain Faust would thoroughly enjoy it.

Don’t you think so too, Master Sage?

Akira: …

Rustica: …

Akira: ...I guess.

Rustica: Fufu. I’m quite glad to hear it.

Akira: (If he looks at Faust so eagerly, of course it’ll be hard to say no to him, no matter what…)
