chapter one

[Wizards’ Manor—Bennett’s Bar]

Shylock: Chloe, Rustica, welcome.

Rustica: Good evening to you. Is there room for the both of us?

Murr: We’ve got the whole place! The bar is completely empty!

Shylock: I would appreciate you not implying that this establishment is abandoned by its customers.

Rustica: Let us have a drink first, to this delightful meeting of ours.

Shylock: I have concocted something special for you to enjoy tonight. Would you like to try it?

(Shylock pours a glass.)

Chloe: ...Wow, it’s delicious!

Shylock: Quite tasty, is it not? I tried to brew something new using berries from the South. Take it as a flavorful memory of our trip there.

Chloe: From the South? I have to admit I was a bit nervous before visiting, but I’m glad I got to make plenty of great memories there!

Murr: I had lots of fun with all the weird creatures!

Shylock: I am persuaded they would be honoured to hear such high praise from you, as the oddest of them all.

Murr: ‘Oh-nuhd’? Chloe, what does ‘oh-nuhd’ taste like?

Chloe: Why would you assume it's food?

Rustica: Ahaha, this evening is bound to be quite eventful.

Murr: Huh? Whazzat music?

Shylock: It is simply Rustica humming. He seems to be in a particularly good mood tonight.

Murr: Great, let’s dance then! Give me your hand Shylock!

Shylock: Goodness, you are outrageously pushy. I shall submit to your whims, but just for a bit.

Chloe: Ahaha, not even waiting for us, are you? How about we join them, Rustica?

Murr: Alright, let’s switch it up! Chloe, you’re next!

Chloe: Whoa, Murr, don't pull me in so fastー!

Shylock: ...Fufu. I'm afraid you have lost your companion.

Rustica: It seems that you have been abandoned as well.

Shylock: Us poor, rejected souls shall console each other then. May I have your hand for a dance?

chapter two

[Wizards’ Manor—Bennett’s Bar]

Shylock: Your glass is almost empty. Would you like the same?

Rustica: I would appreciate it, yes. Good drinks find no end, do they?

Shylock: There is plenty of alcohol on the shelves, you can enjoy your glass at your own leisure.

…Our children seem to be already asleep.

Rustica: Fufu, how adorable; they are resting on each other.

Shylock: I would rather say that Chloe is buried under Murr...

Rustica: Chloe is a joy to take care of. He is one of the most beloved gems I have.

Shylock: He is, indeed.

Which is why you must bear such mixed feelings, don’t you?

Rustica: Mixed feelings? What do you mean?

Shylock: The more refined the gem, the more people covet it. Eventually, your precious gem will jump out of your pocket, far from your reach, and shine for the vast world that pursues it.

Don’t you find the possible loss regrettable?

Rustica: My, in no way!

I want Chloe to go out into the world, see and experience as much as is offered to him. I truly wish for him to mingle with a plethora of people.

Rustica: A gem shines the brightest when it is sought after, and anyone who will come by his brilliance will love him as much as I do.

If that happens, I would be beyond overjoyed.

Shylock: I see… Your genuine feelings must grate the ears of those that will not allow their precious gem out of their pocket.

Rustica: Undeniably… Murr is akin to a treasure for you as well, isn’t he?

Shylock: What makes you think so? I was only talking about jewels, and nothing else.

Rustica: Each and everyone of us here show love in very different ways, each as fascinating as they are precious.

Shylock: ...Yes, it truly is so.

“His Feelings”

[Wizard’s Manor—Bennett’s Bar]

Shylock: Master Sage, may I ask for your opinion?

Akira: Of course.

Shylock: I am still adjusting this non-alcoholic cocktail, and something seems to be missing still. What do you think, Master Sage?

Akira: Wait, it’s about cocktails!? Surely there's someone better qualified than me for this...

(Shylock has a rather distinguished taste when it comes to drinks... I’m not sure I can give him the feedback he’d want...)

Shylock: Fufu… My dear Master Sage, what I want to hear is your opinion, and yours alone. No need to be shy about it.

Akira: Shylock… Thank you.

Right, so… Perhaps with a little more sourness, it would feel more refreshing and be easier to drink… I, um, I think.

Shylock: That is a good point, I shall add some lemon juice then.

What do you say to a little tasting tonight to keep me company? I wish to hear more of your impressions.
