chapter one

Akira: Good evening, Shylock.

Shylock: Welcome, Master Sage.

White: Look at what we have here, if it isn’t our Sage. You may sit next to me.

Akira: White? It’s unusual for you to be alone. Isn’t Snow with you?

White: I am indeed alone on this evening. Ever since I became a ghost, we have decided to spend some time separately every so often.

Akira: Ah… S-Sorry! I made you say something you probably didn’t want to talk about.

White: It all was long-ago. You needn't worry about it.

Besides, drinking alone in Shylock’s bar is quite pleasant!

Akira: If that’s fine by you then... Oh, the cocktail you’re having has such a pretty color. I’ve never seen it before.

White: Right you are, it is in fact a new creation by Shylock. Would you like one?

Shylock: It is a non-alcoholic drink. I can prepare another one if you so wish, Master Sage.

Akira: Yes, please!

Murr: Hey, Shylooock! Ah, Master Sage and White are here too!

Akira: Good evening, Murr.

Murr: Oh, but there’s only White? Snow isn’t around?

White: It is that day after all. A change once in a while does wonders.

Murr: Really? You two always say you’re “two in one”, so why? Is it "Halfsies Day"?

Shylock: Stop this at once, Murr. You may not remember it, but you are one of the main reasons for their current disposition.

Akira: (That’s right, he did say that Murr was the indirect cause of Snow killing White, when he was a scholar…)

Murr: Don’t tell me, you two got into a fight? An argument? A fistfight? Did you kill each other?

Akira: Hold on, Murr…

White: Isn’t our Murr an extremely curious one. Although we did not fight, we have to be cautious. We cannot afford to repeat the same mistake twice.

Murr: What mistake? If you're so sure you're going to repeat them, why are you always glued together? You’re contradicting yourself!

White: ...Oh?

Akira: (Eek... White looks really mad. I have a bad feeling about this.)

White: My dear Murr, I have been hoping to have a talk with you for quite some time.

So, what do you say? Do you have any plans for tomorrow?

Murr: I’m forever and always free!

White: In that case, we shall discuss around a cup of tea.

Murr: Are you inviting me for a tea party? Fine by me, I’ll go!

White: Hoho, it’s a deal then.

Akira: (I’m sort of glad it didn’t end up in a fight... But there's something dangerous about his aura.)

Um, Shylock, shouldn’t we stop them…?

Shylock: Master White won’t even bat an eyelash. As for Murr, I believe he should learn some things the hard way.

Akira: I wonder if that’s really okay though...

chapter two

[Elevator to Northern Country]
Murr: To Northern Country we go!

Akira: (I was so worried about them yesterday that I ended up tagging along...)

Murr: Ta-da! Look at that, Master Sage, I received a handwritten invitation from White.

Akira: Amazing… It actually feels like a full-fledged tea party.

Murr: I can’t wait to see what a tea party in the North is like!

Akira: (Murr seems to be the same as usual, but I really don't think it's safe to bring him all the way to Northern Country.)

(Even though he's always kind and reliable, White is also a Northern wizard. I don't know what I'd do if he got mad...)

White: Pardon me for the wait. Your very own, lovely White is here to pick you up.

Murr: Murr, here to be picked!

White: Oh, and our dearest Sage came along as well!

Akira: H-hello, White. Is it really alright for me to join you?

White: Of course, the more the merrier a party becomes.

Now then, you two, I shall lead the way! I'll let our Sage ride my broom.

Akira: Yes, thank you very much...!
[Forest of Dreams]

White: We have arrived at the Forest of Dreams. Isn't the dreamy pastel aesthetic a perfect match for me? (1)

Be as it may, this forest’s poison could be deadly for you nonetheless. I shall cast a protective spell on you, Sage.

Akira: Sorry. Thanks for your help, White.

White: Now, why don't you both take a seat. I'll make you a nice cup of tea right away.

Akira: Thank you! There’s a lot of oddly colored sweets... Gyaah!?

White urged me to the table, where poisonous-looking frogs and lizards were neatly placed among the cakes.

Their uncanny, sneering cry echoed in my ears, as though stuck, giving me goosebumps.

Akira: (Instead of dreamy-like, it’s just straight-up nightmarish!)

Murr: Wow, amazing! There’s all sorts of weird things in the North!

Akira: ...What?

White: Hohoho, right you are, right you are. I knew it would catch your fancy.

Murr: Yay! This is the best tea party ever!

Akira: White… Could it be that you prepared something Murr would like on purpose?

White: Naturally. It is only up to the host to please their guest.

...Did you, perhaps, think that I would kill Murr?

Akira: I wouldn’t go that far… But I knew it would be a bit of a shocking tea party.

White: That is an interesting way to put it.

Akira: S-Sorry! It’s on me for doubting you, White...

White: No need to apologize, it is my attitude that is to blame. Pardon me for keeping you on your toes.

chapter three

White: To tell you the truth, I was thinking of giving Murr a good punishment, but...

I know better than anyone else the folly of giving in to one’s impulses.

Akira: White…

White: I never held a grudge against Murr to begin with. My death is a matter between Snow and me.

I wanted to deepen my friendship with Murr. That is why I held a tea party in the Northern Country on this day.

Akira: ...Thank goodness, I’m relieved to hear that.

White: As I thought, you are a kind and gentle child. I was persuaded you would follow Murr today.

Yesterday as well, you were observing us with a particularly worried expression, am I wrong?

Akira: That’s...

White: You truly are a sweetheart, Sage. I want to thank you once again for coming to this tea party.

If it weren't for you, I might have tormented Murr, at least for a little while.

Akira: When you word it like that, I sure am glad I came.

White: Hohoho, I am simply joking. Now then, let us enjoy this tea party while the cakes I have prepared are still fresh.

Akira: Cakes, fresh? Could it be what's on the table...

Murr: Hey, White, how am I supposed to eat that?

Akira: (I knew it...! Murr is griping a suspicious-looking frog; and here I was, hoping it was just for decoration...)

Murr: I prefer them rare rather than medium.

Akira: (It’s the cooking that ticks him off!?)

White: Then rare it is. This one tends to be sweeter and even more delicious if you inhale poison from the Forest.

Murr: Yaaay! Do it quick, quick!

Akira: Eek...!

Murr: Hmm? What's wrong, Sage?

Akira: Is that frog really safe to eat? Its color and shrieks make it seem like the world is going to end…

Murr: Frog? Where did you see a frog?

Akira: “Where”, right in your hand, Murr! Look, it croaked again!

White: ...Ah! < Noscomunia >

Akira: Uh, what? The weird creature just turned into a juicy fruit…

White: My apologies. It seems that I have inadvertently loosened our dear little Sage’s protective spell.

Akira: Then the lizards and frogs were...

White: Hallucinations from the Forest of Dreams’ poison! Oopsie ☆

Murr: What did I miss? Was Master Sage going to eat frogs and lizards?

White: What a curious hallucination. If they looked different, would they also bear a different taste? I struggle to even imagine it.

Murr: Now that’s an interesting question! What color would the world’s end be? What would it taste like?

If I breathe in poison, maybe I’ll turn into a frog too. Let’s break our protective spells!

White: That is an excellent idea. Please, do share your impressions after.

See for yourself over there, the roots of this tree seem to have a peculiar dark blue color.

Akira: Wah! Please settle down, you two!

(I knew it would end up being a shocking tea party...!)

(1) White uses the term ゆめかわ (yume kawa), a contraction of the term ゆめかわいい (yume kawaii). It is an aesthetic that bears pastel, dreamy, magical girls-like imagery as its themes. It has been mentioned in other stories around the Forest of Dreams, notably in Forest of Dreams, Location stories. The yume kawaii aesthetic can also feature nightmarish elements due to their relation to dreams.

episode story

“Teacake Fantasy”

Akira: What kind of tea cakes do you have in the Northern Country?

White: There is anything you could think of, from pastries to fruits that you can eat fresh from the source.

Akira: I see. It's freezing cold there, I thought the terrain would make it difficult to grow any crops.

White: It used to be that way, although we now have plants that are acclimated to the Northern lands.

What the vegetation lacks in sunlight, it makes up for it by absorbing the poison and magic nearby.

Akira: (He’s talking about oneiric crops…!)

White: Nonetheless, I have never heard of any of the frogs or lizards that you so speak of from the Forest of Dreams, even less ones that could be turned into sweets.

Perhaps such a thing can be found in the South, where unexploited lands are more abundant than in the North.

Akira: W-wait, I never said I wanted to eat them...

White: Is that so? That is most unfortunate, I had hoped that if the creature were to make a tasty little snack, Snow and I would perhaps learn a thing or two about it.

Akira: Sorry, but I think I’ll just stick to regular teacakes…

White: Hohoho! Find yourself lucky then, I just happen to have some fruits-filled cookies from the North. Shall we have tea together then?

Akira: By all means!
