Tokyo Color Sonic!! | “Moments song series” Prelude
“Moments song series” Prelude
Posted on February 20th, 2023 (source)
――The school festival season was upon Ironoha Music Institute after the Growing Fes., one marked by their yearly festivities: the “Shikigakusai” school festival.
Thanks to Color Sonic’s success last year, the Institute expects far more visitors to flock to its main attraction: the atrium’s main stage.
Selected by the Chancellor, this event represents an annual occasion for students to present their original compositions and songs.
From their resounding success at the Growing Fes., our ten selected members have been tasked with the creation of new songs as well as the main stage show.
――Thus, the members promptly called a meeting in the conference room.
An hour later, the discussion was at a standstill: this school festival is far different from the Color Sonic, with no buddy system to rely on nor rules to follow. In other words, all the composers must join forces to compose these five songs. They will also have to decide on a theme, like how Tadokoro does for the Color Sonic every year.
Simply put, this will be their first time producing everything from scratch.
”Well we ain’t gonna make any progress if we dun’ figure out a plan of action.” Everybody nodded to Mirai’s statement.
“Indeed... I wish we had a rough guideline for the production part, but I cannot think of anything just yet…”
Even Kagura, usually logical and sensibly opinionated, was unusually puzzled by the situation.
”A ‘theme’, hm… How about we make up something that’d fit us like a glove instead of racking our brains to find a theme that suits us?”
“I agree, Haruhi-san! With the Growing Fes., our song choices felt more limited, but now…”
“I getcha! Like, uh, how do I say that… ‘T’was like a light that lived only for a moment, kinda.”
The vocal line wholeheartedly assented to Sora and Oshiro's comments following Haruhi's.
“A ‘moment’... That got a nice ring to it. What do you guys think?”
”Hm-hm! I think so too…!”
“To write and sing songs only we can make, at this given moment in time… I agree, that’s perfect for us.”
“Kairi-kyun ‘s always razzle-dazzlin’ aaanyway! He’s fine with it though! Thoughts, Moetan?”
“I think that’s feasible, and it would be far easier than to deliberate yet another hour on any conventional theme.”
Arashi’s question seemed to have solidified the idea in his fellow vocalists’ minds.
Kagura, who had unexpectedly sunk into silence, suddenly spoke up:
“A ‘moment’… In that case, what do you think of depicting the passage of time?”
Everyone’s attention fell on the composer.
”We’ll need a liii’l more explanation than that, Takatsuki-kun.”
“The idea would be to divide the day into five phases, from sunrise to sunset, and create songs inspired by these moments—such as the first rays of sunlight, the bustling of the day, the twilight in the evening, the night that only just began, or the quiet of dawn…”
“WOOOH, dude! That’s a sick idea, Takatsuki! The heck, ya coulda told us yer idea before!!”
”He can be pretty romantic, though he doesn’t look the part.”
“I reckon it’s a great idea! I’m hella excited now!!”
“So am I! You’re wonderful, Takatsuki-san!”
At his fellow songwriters' torrents of compliments, Kagura had blushed up to his ears and turned away from their gaze:
“Y-You had laid out the clues, so I pieced your ideas together! That’s all!”
The five vocalists had their say about Kagura’s reaction too:
“The guy can’t be honest with himself for a sec’, jeez.”
“That's one of the good things that makes Takatsuki who he is.”
“Mh-hm, Takatsuki-kun is a really nice person.”
“Awww, Iorin, Sebumin! Don’t fall for his tricks! You can’t get too soft on him! Welp, can’t blame PTA for somehow figuring out the perfect idea, sooo~”
“Indeed, that was a relatively decent idea for such a straight-laced person.”
“Hey, you two! I can hear you!”
“There, there, no need to fight. Now that we’ve figured out a guideline, we should work out the song production. First, I say we let Takatsuki-kun do the songs’ division since he came up with the idea, and then—”
At Haruhi’s assertion, everyone gathered around Kagura—thus, the ten of them began working on the songs.
”The first rays of sunlight,
the hustle and bustle of the day,
the evening twilight,
a night that only just began,
and the quiet of dawn.”
How will these songs, each depicting a different moment in time, enchant the festival’s stage?
That instant will breathe life into colours that only they can show, that could not exist anywhere else.
Engrave this moment in this one, single song.
